Product Description This amp is most likely the best upgrade value in the world of home theater, Onkyo's M-282 is ideal for adding to THX Surround EX or other multi-room/multi-channel systems. Onkyo's exclusive WRAT technology helps maximize signal accuracy.
Amazon.com Product Description Ideal for quality stereo listening, for expanding your surround system from 5.1 to 6.1 or 7.1 channels to deliver the latest home theater surround formats, and for multiroom setups, Onkyo's M-282 stereo power amplifier makes a powerful and affordable system upgrade. The amp uses Onkyo's exclusive Wide Range Amplifier Technology and pumps 2 x 100 watts per channel RMS into 8 ohm speakers and 2 x 125 wpc into 6 ohms. (For dynamic power handling, you're looking at 2 x 140 watts into 8 ohms, 2 x 125 watts into 6 ohms.) If you're going for an upgrade from 5.1 to 7.1, make sure your 5.1 surround receiver has preamplifier outputs for 7.1 channels. The M-282 only amplifies a line-level signal; it does not include surround processing or a volume control like a traditional preamplifier or an integrated amplifier/surround receiver. You can rig the amp to power up when it senses an audio signal or through the use of a 12-volt trigger (standard to automation systems). The receiver also features audio passthrough jacks in case you want to daisy-chain several like components through several rooms for multi-room distribution of your primary listening source. The receiver uses Onkyo's Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT), which ensures signal accuracy even with high-resolution sources such as DVD-Audio and SACD. According to Onkyo, WRAT eliminates the adverse effects of counter-electromotive force by applying an unusually low amount of NFB (negative feedback), constructing the amp with carefully selected, high-tolerance, wide-range parts in all critical sections, and using innovative circuit topology based on the company's decades of experience building high-end amplifiers. The result? A flat response beyond 100 kHz. Rear-panel connections and controls consist of a ground (use only if the system exhibits an audible hum), an input-level adjustment, 1 each stereo analog (left/right) RCA audio input and passthrough/output, a trigger setting (audio, 12-volt, off), a 12-volt trigger input jack, left/right speaker outputs with banana-plug-friendly binding-post speaker terminals, and a grounded AC power terminal. What's in the Box Power amplifier, an AC power cord, and a user's manual.

surround onkyo July 26, 2010 Dito The Onkyo m-282 is exactly what i looking for i need it a power amp for my 7.2 ss the two sub need it some power and this amp delivered right on. the sound is crisp and i only have it half way on the nod. my streem speaker rated at 200 are very happy couple to the amp.
great power! great buy, good as primary July 23, 2010 D. H. Paull (B-More) If you're looking for a relatively cheap basic audio system, this is it. It runs fine from my $30 usb soundcard (behringer uca202) where you can control the overall level on the back of the amp and your day-to-day volume and eq from your computer. This is not ideal because you have to make sure the amp is off when you turn on your sound card (mine makes a loud pop that I think will send a tremendous beat through the amp but I haven't tried it). I'm sure there are better usb audio devices that can be used as a preamp.
I am using a preamp (gemini pa-7000) with the m-282 as my main stereo system. This combo makes a basic amplifier system where all your money goes into excellent power and superb sound with zero background hiss or buzz like most receivers have, even high-end ones.
I have this hooked in parallel to 2xR+2xL JBL E30s, so it's powering 4 ohms fantastically well, with way better sound than my old amp (onkyo TX8511) and where my old amp apparently induced distortion in the speakers they are now loud and clear as high as I dared turn it up for fear of ear damage (I thought this distortion was a result of the speakers alone until I got this new combo). maybe you can make your current speakers even better. And I kept this high volume for a good 2 songs and the amp was still cool, so I'm sure it'll have no trouble driving high-current-draw speakers.
Note: if you are not aware already, wattage is a misleading spec. and not all 100 watt amps have the same "power" even though technically watt=power. This amp has insane "power" for its 100 watt rating.
Don't get sucked into cheap (<$1500) surround sound systems. Unless you have a boatload of money, surround sound is not worth what you pay. Buy a good amp like this one and 2 good speakers and stands (note the Klipsch b-2's are on sale now, they're excellent). My system mentioned above cost less than $600 and blows away any bose surround system I've ever heard, and with the proper speaker placement the imaging is nearly as good as surround speakers for movies if you're into that kinda stuff. my friend bought the bose acoustimass 16 system and was totally jealous when he heard my system.
Good Zone 2 amp March 18, 2010 Jeremy Collins (Chicago, IL USA) I use this amp to power zone 2 along with the Onkyo TX8555 Receiver and a multi-speaker selector switch box.
Both have great sound quality; the M-282 is a good compliment to the TX8555 receiver. Note that the M-282 is only an amplifier with limited ability to adjust audio signal intensity in-line, so I'd recommend using it along with a receiver that can adjust the base/treble/balance and control the volume of the audio signal. I'd recommend the M-282 to anyone looking for a mid-range low-cost zone 2 amplifier with plenty of power at 8 ohms.
ONKYO M-282 POWER AMPLIFIER February 21, 2010 Robert D. Vachon I'VE OWNED THIS 2CHANNEL AMPLIFIER FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR NOW. IT'S CLEAN. IT'S RELIABLE.
IT DOES NOT SOUND LIKE IT HAS 100WATTS PER CHANNEL HOWEVER. MODERN DAY POWER AMPS SOUND ABSOLUTLY
GUTLESS TO ME. THIS AMP REPLACED AN OLDER (1977)MARAMTZ 125WATTS X2 RECEIVER. 25WATTS PER CHANNEL
SHOULD BARELY BE PERCEPTABLE, ..IF AT ALL. ...WELL, ...THEY JUSY DON'T BUILD THEM LIKE THEY USED TO.
MAYBE SOMETHING WOULD COME OF THIS AMPLIFIER, IF IT WAS AVAILABLE IN MONO. I'D BUY TWO. THIS AMPLIFIER IS PERFECT FOR LISTENING AT MODERATE VOLUME LEVELS WITH BOOKSHELF SPEAKERS.
a dependable power horse February 6, 2010 Christopher B. Cutter (Louisiana) Got this to replace the Pyle amp that died after a couple of days. I only use it to power two small speakers in the back yard as part of a remote system hooked up to an old HK receiver. It is clearly capable of much grander status but I couldn't found a cheaper one that I felt would last. In my experience the well-made Jap amps last twnty years plus and are usually bullet-proof to screw-ups in our power supply or speaker short outs.
